Hour long workouts, making matcha & meditating at 5am , 10k daily steps? NO THANK YOU 🙅🏽‍♀️

For as much as I love social media and the connection it allows us to have with one another, it can breed an unhealthy and an unrealistic approach towards what fitness or wellbeing is. We are all so unique, we like different foods, colours and music genres, so why not remember that when it also comes to exercise? My best friend loves spin classes, whereas for me they’re the last form of exercise you’ll catch me doing, my body works best on a mat or even at a boxing class.

Once you find what works for you (and it might take some trial and error, I did several spin classes before I realised it wasn’t the one for me!) you’ll unlock a new level of motivation and be so much more committed to yourself because you’ve found a routine that works for you.

It might not even be one of my workouts (although with such a wide variety available in the app, I’m obviously going to say that there’s something for everyone 😉).

I used to see girls online who have their life in order and manage to find the perfect balance between working hard, having fun and prioritising their mental and physical health. I realised there are some non negotiables that I had to follow in order to achieve the same balance:

1. Be realistic with how much time you can dedicate to yourself each day, sometimes it’s 10 minutes, other times I’ve got a whole afternoon. By being honest with yourself on how much time you have, you’ll let go of any guilt attached to focusing on yourself.

2. Find what works for you. Some days I want to sweat and do an intense workout, other days I run a bath and read my book. Our needs change all the time, focus on what makes you feel good.

3. Motivate yourself. It’s great to be inspired by what you might see on social media, but ultimately the dream of being able to find that balance and control has to be enough to make you want to do it.
